Tiger Eye

Tiger Eye is asbestos that has been replaced with iron-bearing quartz, leaving the fibrous appearance behind and creating the "eye" or chatoyant effect. When iron inclusions of crocidolite transform into limonite fibres within quartz. Tiger Eye comes in several colors, the most common being yellowish brown. Rarely is the stone blue or gray.  If so,  then is called "Falcon's Eye" or "Hawk's Eye". The red is often heat-treated and sometimes called "Cherry Tiger Eye". 

  • A stone of protection that is also very grounding. Enhances integrity, willpower, practicality and correct use of power. Enhances good luck, and brings prosperity, often in the form of money. helps one see clearly without illusion. Brings a special boost to the solar plexus chakra and to one's personal power.

  • A combination of earth and sun which would be practicality, decision making and creativity. Gold tiger’s eye is said to be helpful for Protection from “evil eye”, eyesight, and brightness. Main stone for the navel chakra.

  • The changing hues of this stone indicate its quality of insight, to look beneath the surface and reveal the truth. It is allied to good fortune and bravery and used as a talisman to overcome deceit and duplicity.

Mystical Properties:

  • Universally thought to bring good fortune and to protect from the "Evil Eye". 
  • A golden brown gem, Tiger Eye is thought to be ruled by the life-giving Sun and so is thought to bring courage during dark times. Roman soldiers wore Tiger Eye for  protection during battle.
  • Often mentioned as bringing Luck and Wealth. Sometimes mentioned for use in money and spells.
  • The Blue/gray variety (Hawk's Eye) is said to give the ability to see the complete truth and forgive without the crippling effect of emotion. This is considered the height of Christ consciousness and therefore vibrates to the 6th Chakra and above.
  • The red variety is said to improve the ability to speak and even give the wearer a desire to orate. Thought to vibrate to the Throat Chakra (5th).
  • Natural Healers use Tiger Eye to increase practicality and common-sense. Tiger Eye is also thought to increase psychic power as it resembles an eye (Third Eye).
  • Natural Healers use Tiger Eye to help a person's confidence. It it thought to be a balancing, grounding gemstone.

Scientific Properties: Tiger Eye is asbestos that has been replaced by Quartz.  Limonite, an iron mineral, generally provides the yellow/brown coloring. Sometimes a component of massive Tiger Iron deposits, as found in Australia.

Most modern day Tiger eye comes from Australia and China. Hardness: 7.0 on the Moh's Hardness Scale
