Dumortierite
"Blue Desert Lapis." Hard, opaque gemstone, usually a dusty denim blue, though rarely violet or pink (Violite). It is rapidly gaining popularity, probably because it goes well with denim. It gets its name from the French Paleontologist, Eugene Dumortier.
Mystical Properties:
- Thought to help gain control over life and see reality for what it is. Therefore, sometimes mentioned as useful in treating addictions and compulsive/impulsive behaviors. Sometimes mentioned as improving the ability to stand firm and keep resolve.
- Thought useful in recalling past lives.
- Natural Healers associate Dumortierite with opening a closed 6th Chakra, or 3rd Eye.
Healing Properties:
- Releasing old negativity. Headaches.
- Drug/alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
- Calming, eliminate stubbornness.
- Provide stamina to retain the self when subjected to harsh environments.
- Excellent for patience.
- Realization of illusion.
- Stimulate verbalization of ideas.
- Provide insights into basis of conditions in order to understand and correct the cause.

Scientific Properties: Composed of an Alkaline Aluminum Borosilicate.
An ore of Boron, Dumortierite is found in the Western U.S., where it was mined for spark plug ceramics as it is quite hard and durable. 7 on the Moh's Hardness Scale
