Calcite
Calcite is a common, very soft mineral which comes in a rainbow of colors. It may be completely transparent or opaque as in limestone and marble. The crystalline variety may come as very large crystals. Metamorphosed (i.e. heated) calcite is known as "Marble" and is often used to adorn buildings. Uncompacted calcite is known as "chalk". Calcite is the main mineral composing limestone and the stalagmites and stalagtites in caves. Calcite will "fizz" when wetted with a mild acid solution.
The chemical composition is CaCO3. Calcite occurs in all colors and is transparent to opaque in appearance. It is cut into cabochons, carvings, spheres and beads. Occasionally you will see it faceted in gemstones, but this is really for collectors only since they are hard to come by. This stone is fairly soft being only a 3 on the Moe’s Scale of hardness. Calcite is fairly abundant and is found all over the world.
Numerology- Calcite vibrates to the number 8. The number 8 has to do with personal power.

It's also often considered the "mental" stone as it enhances intellect. Recommended as a study aid and to improve wisdom and mental harmony.

Red Calcite is used to open a closed Heart Chakra (a closed Heart Chakra means the person resists giving or receiving love).
Healing Properties: Green calcite is said to heal mental problems, infections and aid lungs/heart. Gray/blue calcite is thought to have calming properties.
